On April 27, 2022, the Regulatory Committee's new Digital Services Sub-Committee has its kick-off meeting with participants joining in-person and online. This Sub-Committee is an attempt to find solutions and create a dialogue between member companies and the governmental sphere in regard to the complex world of the regulation of digital services.
The first meeting resulted in a comprehensive discussion led by Dr Judit Firniksz (Vodafone), when representatives of members companies and law firms agreed that the group would continue to work cooperatively towards reaching its objectives, develop agenda items and discuss relevant issues.
Members also discussed the four subtopics they wish to work on in the upcoming months, agreeing that anyone who is interested in working on a particular topic feel free to join. The main subtopics were:
- Consumer protection and digital advertising legislation
- EU regulatory initiatives for digital markets
- Revision of the PSD2 Directive in the light of digital processes
- Cybersecurity and digital identity
Representatives also agreed that apart from achieving concrete legislation amendments, improving implementation, and creating new legislation, they also want to develop position papers and policy recommendations.
Therefore, the cooperation with governmental sphere in these matters is crucial. AmCham considers it essential that once the new governmental structure is established, the mutual dialogue will be created with relevant governmental officials in regard to these matters.
In the future the Digital Services Subcommittee will continue its work in order to achieve concrete legislation amendments and improve implementation of Directives in cooperation with government.
About the Regulatory Committee
The mission of the committee is to perform a legal supporting function assisting fellow committees and the AmCham Board, and operating as a workshop for many of the most highly skilled practicing attorneys in Hungary and the representatives of AmCham member companies.
