AmCham’s Business Services Sector Cooperation held its flagship event, the BSS Open Days on 18 & 20 October at two member offices, Eaton on the Buda side and Avis Budget Group on the Pest side. This was the first sectoral career event of its kind, involving 17 BSCs and 120+ participants in Budapest. The event aimed to introduce the sector and its job opportunities to university students, fresh graduates and career changers.
On the first day, visitors could get to know the service centers: Aldi, BT, Corning, Eaton, Howden and Lexmark; as well as learn about the Business Services Sector and its employment opportunities. The program aimed to demystify the stereotypes about the BSS sector and provide a clearer picture of the different career options. The company representatives from a wide range of fields shared their personal career narratives as well as descriptions of their roles and responsibilities. The panel discussions were interactive, allowing the audience to indicate what topics they wanted to hear about from the speakers, such as the possibilities and challenges of working in a multinational environment, the value of self-awareness, and compensation expectations.
The second day, service centers on the Pest side introduced themselves: Albemarle, Avis Budget Group, bp, Celanese, Citi, Diageo, Ford, IBM, MagiCom and Tesco Business Services. The audience learned about the key characteristics of the sector such as the young - average employee age is 33 – and multinational work environment – as American, German and British businesses make up the majority of the industry. The discussions demonstrated, among other things, that it is a desirable career choice for all age groups as there are open positions from entry to senior levels, and openness, diversity, strong team spirit and flexibility define the company cultures of Business Service Centers.
Each day, after the roundtable discussions and quizzes, participants had the chance to meet the talent acquisition colleagues of each company to network and apply for the desired positions straight away.
