Policy Forum - European Commissions 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities

Budapest has recently joined the European Commission’s 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, a pivotal initiative that has the power to shape our city's future. The aim of the mission is to enable participating cities to act as innovation hubs for pursuing climate neutrality and to enable all European cities to follow suit by 2050. The project focuses particularly on cities as they are responsible for more than 70% of global CO2 emissions and are home to 75% of EU citizens.

Out of the 100 EU and 12 additional pioneering cities, Budapest is one of the largest and in a prime position to spearhead climate action. However, to transform entire value chains and emission domains, the collaboration and coordinated action of multiple actors across sectors will be needed.

Hence, the Municipality of Budapest invites AmCham and its members to join them in this mission and explore potential areas of cooperation for a climate-neutral Budapest.

The distinguished speaker of the Policy Forum :

  • Barsi Orsolya, Head of Climate and Environment Department, Municipality of Budapest
