AmCham Policy Forum with Barbara Botos, Hungary's Ambassador at Large for Climate

Dr. Barbara Botos was appointed as Hungary’s Ambassador at Large for Climate in 2022. We invited her to discuss the details and focus of her mandate, as well as the most recent European developments in climate policy.

In her presentation Dr. Botos will talk about her mandate as Climate Ambassador, as well as the most recent developments in global climate discussions.

She will brief us on the key topics of the two UN Framework Convention on Climate Change conferences at the end of 2022 - COP 27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt and COP 15 in Montreal, Canada - and how new commitments to carbon reduction and the preservation of biodiversity might impact the global economy and businesses.

She will also touch upon other international developments as well, such as the Inflation Reduction Act (published by the USA ) and what the EU could do to preserve its competitiveness, while also steering towards its net zero goal.

Barbara Botos, Ambassador at Large for Climate, Hungary
Dr Barbara Botos was appointed as Hungary’s Ambassador at Large for Climate in 2022. Prior to her new appointment, Barbara Botos was the Deputy Secretary of State for Climate Policy at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Hungary for four years, where she was in charge of international, EU and national climate change, renewable and energy efficiency policy-making and programs.

Previously, she was Head of the Department of Climate Policy at the Ministry of National Development. She has been actively involved in the UNFCCC and EU climate negotiations for the last 11 years as head of the Hungarian delegation and UNFCCC and IPCC focal point of Hungary. Previously, Barbara was teaching at universities and worked for local governments in the field of environmental protection and climate policy. She is a member of the Women in Energy Association.
