AGA: Recap of a Year of Renewal, New Board Members Elected

At the XXXIII. General Assembly on December 1, the AmCham membership received report of the activities of another busy and rewarding year, accepted the plan for 2022, and elected new members to the board of governors.

Tímea Pesti, Chief Executive Officer of LeasePlan Hungary became First Vice President, succeeding Edit Bencsik of TATA Consultancy Services who has been a member of the board since 2014.

Michael Carlson, Partner at KPMG Hungary ran unopposed for the Secretary Treasurer position, securing another two-year term.

Furthermore, two new board members-at-large were elected by the members present with Krisztián Toka, Managing Director of Amgen and Matt Zeller, General Manager of Novartis Hungary joining the governing body. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Melinda Topolcsik, President & Managing Director, Bridgestone Tatabánya for her service on the board.

AmCham Foundation: Helping children in need during the toughest time

Despite a challenging year, the AmCham Foundation closed another busy year. Following a presentation of the year's highlights, Edit Bencsik, a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees accepted a donation of 500000 HUF from Arne Klehn, Managing Director of Budapest Marriott Hotel.

Iván Völgyes Award

Continuing a great tradition, the AmCham board awarded the Dr. Iván Völgyes Award for the 15th time.

Dr. Iván Völgyes, often regarded as the father of modern lobbying in Hungary, was instrumental in bringing numerous U.S.-based businesses to Hungary including the Gallup Organization and Reader's Digest. As the chief advisor to General Electric in Hungary, Mr. Völgyes also assisted in bringing six of GE's 10 global core businesses, along with more than $1 billion in investment.

In 2021, the award was granted to dr. Péter Komáromi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the AmCham Foundation and Partner at Sándor Szegedi Szent-Ivány Komáromi Eversheds Sutherland who received a special gift, courtesy of Tungsram, an Entelburg pen with a unique, ergonomic design and smooth metal surface, exclusively manufactured by Tungsram in celebration of the company’s 125 years Anniversary.
